The scandal surrounding the collapse of the $LIBRA token has recently taken a central turn: the existence of a confidential agreement signed between President Javier Milei and crypto entrepreneur Hayden Mark Davis, two weeks before the launch of the cryptocurrency that ultimately caused thousands of victims. The document, dated January 29, 2025, was signed during a brief visit by Davis to Argentina and establishes his role as an honorary advisor in blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies. According to judicial and parliamentary reconstructions, the agreement was signed in the context of private meetings at the Casa Rosada, where Davis held a thirty-minute meeting with Milei, accompanied by lobbyists Mauricio Novelli and Manuel Terrones Godoy. At the center of the case is also the firm KIP Protocol, led by Singaporean citizen Julian Peh. Initially linked to the $LIBRA project, the company denied participating in the launch and then directly pointed to Novelli as the link that incorporated them at the last minute. However, in less than an hour, the price plummeted. These movements are part of the investigation led by Federal Prosecutor Eduardo Taiano, aimed at determining if there was a criminal scheme behind the launch of $LIBRA. On February 14, 2025, Davis launched the token, which went from trading at cents of a dollar to nearly five dollars after a new presidential post. Two crypto wallets attributed to Davis sent transfers of over one million digital dollars to a wallet associated with Orlando Rodolfo Mellino, who then redirected the funds to another wallet identified by investigators as a suspected crypto cave. This scheme included staggered payments of hundreds of thousands of dollars in crypto assets, transactions that were later detected in virtual wallets linked to Novelli, Terrones Godoy, and then-advisor to the National Securities Commission, Sergio Morales. In the face of growing fraud accusations, Milei deleted his post and publicly stated that he was unaware of the project's details. The plot expands with other parallel agreements. Journalistic investigations and the work of the Congressional Investigation Committee indicate that Davis had previously signed an understanding to act as an official advisor to the Argentine state on blockchain, artificial intelligence, and cryptocurrencies. After that meeting, the President posted a message on social network X introducing the entrepreneur, a post that was later amplified by Kelsier Ventures, the firm co-founded by Davis, which publicly claimed the role of presidential advisory. Financial movements were registered that same day, which are now under judicial scrutiny.
